1. Coaching – What is it ?

Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential.

CEOs of big companies started using coaches around 20 years ago, and then it spread through their management teams until today coaching is used at all levels, to deal with a variety of performance and development issues. More recently, forward thinking entrepreneurs in the small business market have also been using coaches to accelerate the development of themselves and their businesses. Coaching could be the catalyst you need for moving you and your business to an entirely different level.

2. Coaching – The benefits

At Red Catapult we believe that coaching offers a unique and powerful intervention that can help business owners, senior leaders and their staff quickly improve their performance. Through our coaching programmes we support the growth of managers and leaders, building up their abilities and skills to transform the way in which they interact with others, radically improving their effectiveness at work.

Benefits for the Individual:

  • Improved managerial and interpersonal skills resulting in better relationships with colleagues, clients and suppliers.
  • Achieve more through increased confidence, clarity of purpose and vision and a more assertive and action oriented approach to their personal and working lives.
  • Solve their own problems and get the results they want quicker than they can on their own

Benefits to the Organisation:

  • Increased productivity, quality, customer service and shareholder value.
  • Increased commitment and satisfaction of your employees which can improve staff retention.
  • Coaching also supports employees in taking on new challenges and responsibilities supporting the necessary succession planning that successful, growing businesses require.

Team Coaching & Development

People are the most important asset of any organisation and when working together as a team they have the potential to deliver outstanding results.

When working with teams we combine the insight gained from team behavioural profiling with the tools and approach created by Patrick Lencioni to overcome the Five Dysfunctions which can prevent all teams from accomplishing the results they set out to achieve.

Career Coaching

Our work with individuals is specialised in the area of career change and transition. Typical clients come to us following redundancy or realisation that they are no longer happy in their current role, company or career. Through a structured career coaching programme we take these clients from not knowing what their next step might be, through to having a clear vision of a career that is absolutely right for them, and a plan for how to create it.

Behavioural Profiling & Assessment

Through the use of behavioural profiling and assessment we practically helps our clients to :

  • Understand their behaviour and the impact it has on others
  • Recognise the behavioural styles of the people around them
  • Adapt their behaviour with any individual to gain a better response in any given situation

This is a powerful tool which can be used to help improve communications, increase efficiency, improve team dynamics and structures, reduce conflict and improve motivation and recruitment success. Behavioural profiling is integral to all Red Catapult Coaching Programmes, providing personal insight to the individual and forming the basis of preliminary coaching conversations.

4. Training, coaching skills and competencies

On entering a professional coaching career and setting up my own coaching practice I wanted to be part of a recognised professional coaching organisation with a competency framework and professional code of ethics I could work to and which would support my own ongoing personal development. To achieve this I became a member of the ICF (International Coaching Federation), which is the largest professional organisation that credentials and supports professional coaches and provides the following additional benefits :

  • Commitment to raising the professional standards of coaching.
  • Professional code of conduct & ethics
  • A worldwide network of coaches, with access to up-to-date information about developments in the industry.
  • Excellent coaching resources
  • Access to research on coaching and development opportunities
  • Opportunity to support the growth and professionalism of the coaching industry

Having joined the ICF I embarked on a personal development programme to achieve ICF credentialed status. My initial training was with the ICF accredited Adler School of Coaching, based in Toronto, where I completed my foundation training and achieved the status of Adler Associate Business Coach. I have continued my training here in the UK with Results Coaching Systems (Europe) and have completed their Intensive Coach Training Programme.

I am now developing my skills further with specialist training programmes in Team Coaching and Executive Coaching with Results Coaching Systems.

5. Our experience

In summary, I bring over 20 years of experience working in a number of blue-chip organisations in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific. I have worked in two specific areas, Manufacturing and Sales & Marketing undertaking a number of different roles in each of these areas. During this time I have worked within and managed numerous teams across many functional areas of the business. In addition, I have experienced what it takes to transition to a new role, department, company and even country several times during my career. I therefore have a good understanding of the approach and support required to ensure an individual adapts quickly and effectively to the challenges of their new role and environment.

6.Our coaching philosophy

If you keep doing what you have been doing, you will keep getting what you have been getting

To achieve a different outcome, whether that be improved efficiency, greater profits, less stress or better customer service, you need to do something different.

Coaching is an extremely powerful tool for initiating and supporting the necessary change required to get a different outcome and improved performance at both an individual, team and business level. It provides a safe environment and the necessary support structure to enable individuals to identify old destructive habits and behaviours and replace them with new productive habits instead.

Best-selling author, Timothy Gallwey, states in his ‘Inner Game’ books that Performance (P) in any activity, from hitting a ball to solving a complex business problem, is equal to one’s potential (p) after the interference factor (i) has been subtracted from the equation. Quite simply :

Performance = Potential – Interference (P = p – i )

We are all capable realising our potential and achieving more if we can just remove the obstacles which get in our way.

So, what obstacles are holding you, your team or your staff back and creating performance blocking interference ?

The obstacles, the interference, can be in all shapes and forms including: lack of knowledge, personal beliefs, conflict, or your own procrastination.

Our approach to coaching is to help you identify and then eliminate the interference that is preventing you, your staff or your company from getting the results you want.

7. Our coaching process

Typically we meet with our clients on a fortnightly basis.

During the initial sessions we use a structured and proven process to help the client to set clear and powerful goals in the most important areas of their professional and personal lives. Within a larger business or corporate context, these goals are agreed with the corporate sponsor and/or the line manager to ensure they fulfil and satisfy the necessary business objectives.

Once clear, powerful and motivating goals have been established, the stepping stones or strategies that need to be in place to achieve these goals are identified. These strategies enable progress towards the goal to be monitored and acknowledged. They also turn a stretching ambitious goal into an achievable one. Actions are then determined and completed by the client between the sessions providing the momentum to move through the strategies towards achievement of the goals.

Ongoing sessions then provide structure, feedback, perspective and encouragement to assist the client to achieve their goals as quickly and easily as possible.

Evidence suggests that if individuals have a clear idea of what they are trying to achieve, are supported and encouraged to move forward and progress is acknowledged, they are more likely to be motivated to achieve the results they and the business want.

Individual coaching programmes typically require 4-6 months to deliver tangible results and to allow sufficient time to ensure that the individual does not regress back to old habits or patterns of behaviour. After this period we hold a progress review and take the following action :

  • Terminate programme if all goals achieved and no further coaching support is required
  • Continue programme if goals outstanding and / or further goals need to be set
  • Revise programme timetable (increase or decrease coaching interaction) based on the coaches’ needs at that time.

All Red Catapult coaching programmes incorporate behavioural profiling and a personal review process, both acting as key tools in supporting the client with their own self discovery and awareness, providing the framework for the initial coaching conversations.
